Wednesday 24 June 2009 - Eagle's Nest Shelter

Had a bit of a scare whilst in Duncannon on Sunday - I noticed a large red bullseye type welt on my lower back, the tell-tale sign of Lyme's disease caused by the bite of a deer tick. Saw a doctor who prescribed the relevant antibiotics, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Have been hiking with Monkey Wrench for the past few days which has been great although the rocky trail in Pennsylvania is starting to take its toll on my feet.
Saw my first rattlesnake yesterday - a huge thing curled up at the side of the trail - a little scary!

    Alright Rich

Hope things are going well, those photos of the bear are awesome. We are keeping up with your blog. Sounds great.

Me and Jo are currently getting ready for our little trip to the states, we are going in July and are going to do a few nights camping in Yosemite. We were going to take my one man tent, but just tried it and after a moment of hilarity involving Jo being trapped in a tent and (panicking a bit), realized that it is a bit too small. We are therefore looking for a light weight replacement and Andrew mentioned that you had sent your tent home and I wondered if we could borrow it for our trip.

I will post this on your blog, because I am not sure the best way to get hold of you.

Keep us updated and don't get eaten.

Our own local bears made the twenty twenty quarter yesterday

  2. Hi Rich - great news that you've made halfway and the knee seems to have settled down. I know all about knees!!

  3. Hello Wagman.

Was reading your earlier blogs and it was horrible to hear that you were feeling so low. Stay positive mate, I am certain you will complete it. If you can eat that much ice cream you can do anything.

Rattle snake sounded amazing, hope you got a picture of the little blighter. We have 2 more weeks until we break up for the summer holidays so I'm frantically preparing for Chimpsys stag do to Munich and also our trip to Japan and China. Fiona sends her love and I look forward to hearing about what else you've been upto.

Keep going Wag, show those Yanks how it's done!!!

  4. Hi Greg,

I spoke to Rich after I read your comment and as he doesn't get to a computer too often he asked me to let you know you're welcome to borrow his tent. He did say you should test it out first though to make sure it's big enough - it's round at his mum and dad's so he says you should be able to arrange something with them.

Hope all's well with you and Jo!

    Lisa xx
